Vulnerability: why you should step into it

Vulnerability: the quality or state of being exposed to the possibility of being attacked or harmed, either physically or emotionally. (Oxford English)

There is a reason I choose this topic as my very first blog post. I have felt the weight of ‘vulnerability’ like a looming cloud, and it's always hanging with its best friend, ‘unsatisfied’. If you read my book Life Truth Power, you know that I have been searching for years for that missing something. So many of us are in that boat. I can not count the times I have been having coffee or dinner with a friend and the conversation leads to something they are unsatisfied with. Often the smaller material topics like the car or house, always lead into the big life topics, a marriage, a career, physical/mental health, and the overall direction of their life. So many of us are feeling unsatisfied in one way or another. The big things…the big life topics are something we don’t just need to find solutions to - we have to find the solutions to lead our best, most fulfilling life.

The college degree, or lack of one, that was settled for because your parents thought that was the best path for you. The other path you wanted to take “wouldn’t make you enough money” or “our family has always been (blank) and we need you in the family business” or my favorite “where did you get the idea to want to be a (blank), it will take you across the country or you will just end up flipping burgers”. Or, how about the career that was settled for because you didn’t want to try your hand at your dream job because “it’s not prestigious enough” or “my significant other wants to keep bragging to their friends how successful I am”. And, what about settling for a life partner that your family loves and you are scared you can’t do better, so you just “go with it”. So now, you are just shrugging and saying “I'm not sure, I guess this is the right path”. So many have settled for whatever life has offered and are now floating through, their dreams a vapor in the rearview mirror. REALLY?? Does it have to be this way? It is so easy to get here.

Vulnerability is FEAR. Fear that we will be judged for our beliefs or actions. The fear that stepping out of societal or family expectations/norms will end badly. You are exposed..your truth is exposed. It is the fear that life as we know it will change for the worse. What will they think? What will they say? How will they treat me? Will they look at me differently?

Let me clear the haze for you…you wouldn’t feel scared if it wasn’t your truth, if it wasn’t important to you. And what is the key word in all the questions above…? THEY. They, do not know your truth. They do not know your dreams and all your potential you are holding inside.

If you are feeling vulnerable…step into it. Face it. Accept it. Have the courage to walk into the fear. You will be acknowledging and sharing who you truly are. Believe me, I know how hard it can be to follow a desire or a lead. When I wrote my book, it was a gathering of many thoughts and some storms I had been through. It was my life, my inner thoughts, and my feelings. Talking about feeling vulnerable! I was putting, in writing, some of myself on each page that could be shared and read for years to come. There were times, and still are, that I want to hide my face at the thought of my ideas and feelings being put out there for the world to see. But…I did it. I followed - what I knew in my gut - that I needed to do. I knew others had to be feeling the same way and if I could help even in the slightest, it was all worth it.

I stopped caring what others thought. And you should too. By living your truth, you do what you are here to do. You have a part to play in this world - sharing your truth and authenticity by stepping into your vulnerability, you play that part perfectly. If you have to step in holding your hands over your face, do it (although I fully recommend going boldly in the direction of your heart, eyes wide open to take in all the greatness you will become).

I want to leave you with a quote by Nelson Mandela:

“Your playing small does not serve the world, who are you not to be great?”

Love,

Kimberly

It all begins with an idea.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
